Born and raised in Iowa, James G. Martin has always had a passion for exploring the world. At the age of 17, he participated in a summer exchange program in Israel, sparking a lifelong interest in international cultures and global experiences.
While studying at the University of Iowa, James spent a transformative year abroad at the Université de Franche-Comté in Besançon, France. It was there that he met his future wife, Marie, a French citizen, whose immigration journey to the United States would later inspire his career in immigration law.

Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in French, University of Iowa (1986).
Study Abroad: Université de Franche-Comté, Besançon, France.
Juris Doctor:
Seton Hall University School of Law (1994), earned while working as a paralegal at Barst & Mukamal, one of the oldest immigration law firms in the United States.

James began his legal career in New York City, gaining valuable experience at renowned law firms such as Fragomen, Troutman Sanders LLP, and others. During this time, he:

- Specialized in employment-based immigration cases for both immigrant and non-immigrant visas.
Commitment to Social Justice:
As an attorney at the Passaic County Legal Aid Society in New Jersey, James developed a deep understanding of poverty and inequality in America, shaping his empathetic approach to immigration law.
Defending Immigrants’ Rights:
While serving as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in Texas, James defended undocumented immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, appearing daily in Federal Court and honing his skills in litigation and advocacy.
